MW7 2013
In November 2013, Machik Weekend went on the road for the first time. An unprecedented number of over 300 people joined the 8th annual Machik Weekend (MW8) for its first appearance in New York City. Participants were from diverse backgrounds - Tibetans, Chinese and global citizens - traveling from 21 different cities. The support for the idea of civic engagement and grassroots change in Tibet was palpable and dynamic. Despite the challenging and uncertain conditions in Tibet, the 7th annual Machik Weekend was about inspiring individuals to build bridges of understanding and trust, to dream new dreams, and to seek new possibilities in the project of engagement for the future of Tibet.
The theme of Machik Weekend 2013 was “Engaging Tibet” with a special focus on conservation. The goal was to highlight some of the environmental issues in Tibet and its impact on human communities, locally and globally. Panels on the Saturday Forum looked at Education for Change: Summer Enrichment Program, Conservation, Tibet Through the Lens, and Engagement. Panels featured a diverse range of conservationists, filmmakers, young global citizens, Tibet scholars and service practitioners who highlighted solutions-oriented case studies in Tibet.
