Machik Weekend is an annual gathering for dialogue, exploration and understanding among people who share a passion for the ideals of service and civic engagement in Tibet.
Machik Weekend is a Tibetan Ideas Festival through which to share and learn about creating global pathways for Tibet. We convene path-breaking service workers, dynamic leaders and resilient communities who care passionately about Tibet and its future.
This annual weekend of conversation brings together diverse and inspired people to reach a deeper understanding of conditions in Tibet and to create new means of engagement and possibility. Machik is grateful and proud to partner with the Leitner Center for Law and Justice at Fordham University in NYC to help create new frameworks through which to understand some of the complexities of the changing context of Tibet today. The theme of this year’s weekend is #regeneration and we are looking forward to hosting a diverse range of speakers and innovators who will discuss solutions-oriented approaches and creating global pathways for Tibet and beyond. Our goal is to illuminate the value of resourceful and imaginative ideas and practices and their impact on communities at local and global levels. Through roundtables and informal discussions, participants share experiences and learn about key issues such as education, gender dynamics, STEAM, and so on. The annual Machik Weekend wholeheartedly welcomes newcomers and has become a reunion of friends forming a growing community of care or a stronger future for Tibet. It is a weekend of new encounters, discoveries and friendships that will challenge and reshape your assumptions about the possibilities for next steps for Tibet. Thank you for joining us at 2018 Machik Weekend in New York City! |
"Machik Weekend is the most exciting and relevant event on Tibetan education, development, and culture anywhere in the U.S. It brings together scholars, students and supporters of Tibetan education for intensive discussion, and opens up dialogue for Tibetan futures based on engagement and hope. I come away from every Machik Weekend with a better understanding of the challenges ahead, and a renewed sense of the possible." |
"A vital part of Machik’s mission is to build understanding and trust in order to envision new possibilities and a resolve to make the choices necessary to realize a more fair, just and peaceful world. Machik's work is about enabling meaningful social change, one heart at a time."
