What is Machik Weekend?
Machik Weekend is a Tibet Ideas Festival, a unique annual gathering for dialogue, exploration and understanding among people who share a passion for the ideals of service and civic engagement. Machik Weekend is a new bridge among Tibetans, Chinese and global citizens to learn about and work for path-breaking service projects, dynamic leaders and resilient communities in Tibet. We are committed to bringing together diverse and inspired people who will help each other reach a deeper understanding of conditions in Tibet in order to form new means of engagement and possibility.
What is Machik?
Machik is a nonprofit group who mission is to incubate social innovation for Tibet. We work to develop new opportunities for education and capacity building in Tibet. Machik strives for innovative approaches to address the challenges of community revitalization and sustainability, with projects on topics ranging from rural Tibetan education women’s empowerment to supporting social innovation and more.
Who can attend the 13th annual Machik Weekend?
EVERYONE is welcome to Machik Weekend. Machik Weekend is a platform, open to all, that provides a unique opportunity to learn and grow from the ideas shared here. All we ask is that you come with an open heart and mind.
When and where is the 2019 Machik Weekend?
The 2019 Machik Weekend will be held from November 8-10th at the Leitner Center of Fordham University in New York City, across the street from the Lincoln Center.
Who is Machik Weekend for?
Machik Weekend is open to everyone interested in learning and sharing about ideas and engagement for Tibet. There is a diversity of panel topics and speakers to interest a wide audience.
Who funds Machik Weekend?
Machik Weekend is funded through a combination of individual donations, including in-kind donations, and the registration fee. The cost of running this event significantly exceeds the sum of the tickets sold. Machik does not make a profit made from the event. We gratefully welcome donations for those who feel so inclined.
How can I sponsor this event?
We thank you truly for your interest in sponsoring the event. As a sponsor, you will receive prominent exposure before and during the event. Your message will reach a dynamic audience. Please contact us at [email protected] if you are interested to sponsor.
How much will it cost to attend Machik Weekend?
There is a minimal registration fee to help offset the cost of producing Machik Weekend.
What is included in the registration fee?
The general registration fee will cover the cost of conference materials, Saturday & Sunday lunch and other light refreshments and a truly unique opportunity to learn, share and network throughout the three day forum.
How do I get to New York City?
If you are traveling to New York City from out of the town, Fordham Law School, the venue for Machik Weekend this year is very conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan, across the street from the Lincoln Center, on west side of Central Park. It is only a 6 min walk away from either Lincoln Center subway station or Colombus Circle subway station that is the stop for the A, B, C and D subways. The major airports in NYC are LaGuardia (LGA), John F. Kennedy (JFK), and Newark (EWK) in New Jersey. The main train station is Penn Station on the 1, 2, 3 subway line leading directly to the venue with no train changes.
Can I record the program?
Media-available descriptions of the Weekend and their discussion themes must be general and unattributed. Individuals' presentations or comments should not be referenced in public media (including blogs and social networking sites) without such persons' prior approval, especially from out-of-country speakers. Programs may not be recorded; only staff photography is allowed during sessions; and photographing participants is permissible only if intended for personal use.
Are there any accommodations provided by Machik?
Machik is unable to fund accommodations for visitors. We have been fortunate to have wonderful volunteers to offer housing to some of our out-of-state attendees for the weekend at no cost. We can offer a google doc for hosts and visitors to contact each other directly. If you live in the NYC area and would like to host out-of-town guests, please contact us at [email protected].
